The Foolproof Scones

These scones take max 30 mins to prep and cook and are very simple and enjoyable.

Ingredients

  • 450g Self raising flour

  • 1tbs sugar

  • 1 cup of milk

  • 85g butter chopped into cubes and rested to room temp (or just warm in the oven)

Tips

  • Check half way in the oven if the tray needs to be turned to balance cooking

  • It is served with jam, butter, cream or yoghurt

Method

  1. Heat oven to 120c

  2. Mix flour and butter with fingers till it looks like coarse sand

  3. Add milk and mix in with a spoon or your hands, stop as soon as it sticks together

  4. Knead very gently 3 or 4 times into a ball

  5. Flatten with rolling pin to 1.5 to 2cm thickness

  6. Use anything to cut the scones out I use a cup about 5cm diameter

  7. Put into a baking tray spaced out to allow rise
